Inside Cover & Page 1, Copy of Original Missionary Journal of James Bowers (1811-1856)

This is a copy of the original missionary journal of James Bowers (1811-1856) which was received from Nancy Gale. Her mother, Roberta Binnall, currently has possession of the journal. The journal mainly describes who he baptized, confirmed and ordained to different offices in the priesthood. It also describes the different areas where he preached. Several family members are included in the journal.

Page 1 - It is claimed that Jane Hodgetts is Jane Bowers, James' sister. Then is Jane related to Joseph Hodgetts through marriage somehow? Joseph Hodgetts is listed on this page as well. There is a Joseph Hodgetts and Mary Jones Hodgetts that came over the plains in the Appleton M. Harmon Company. I wonder if this is the same Joseph Hodgetts who James Bowers baptized in England.

In addition, James Bowers baptized Roshannah Bowers, Hellen Bowers and Honor Barnickel. Roshannah Leach married John Bowers, James Bowers' brother. Hellen Bowers is James Bowers' sister. Honor Barnickel is Honor Law. Honor is Rosannah Leach's mother.

Page 11 - Honnor Barnickel and Isabeller Wakelane were baptized. Honnor Barnickel was the mother of Rosannah Leach. Rosannah was married to James' brother, John. Honor Law was married to William Barnacle at some point in time. I'm proposing that Isabeller Wakelane is Isabella Haldren, and at this point in time she was married to Joseph Wakelam.
